Telephone & App-based Media Training

With the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, face-to-face coaching at our central London TV and radio studios or at your own office is not possible. Therefore we are offering the alternative of training over the telephone, Skype or Zoom.

It can be especially useful in preparing a spokesperson who has previously been media trained and needs a refresher and practice for a specific upcoming interview.

And with travel and social distancing restrictions, many broadcasters want to interview them over Skype and FaceTime. So we are also able to teach spokespeople how to avoid the pitfalls and shine in this interview format.

It should be noted that people tend to learn differently online than they do face-to-face. It is difficult to concentrate for long periods so sessions need to be shorter; a 90 minute session is usual but we sometimes hold two or three sessions over a week, breaking up media interview skills, messaging and practice into one hour chunks that allow the participant time for reflection and refinement of messages with their PR team.

As with any Electric Airwaves training session, we blend theory and practical, helping identify the engaging and compelling story and messages and recording and analysing mock interviews together.

At this time we are also offering a number of free 30 minute consultations with one of our working print or broadcast journalists about handling the media during the current coronavirus pandemic. You can use the call with one of our journalists as a private, off-the-record opportunity to:

  • Get up-to-the-moment insight to share with your senior executives on how the media is and will be looking to cover the response of organisations to the coronavirus
  • Learn the questions our journalists are asking executives when they interview them for print and broadcast media outlets so you can be prepared for them
  • Seek their guidance on the kind of answers and messages that will allow you to defend and enhance your corporate reputation

“Thanks again for an excellent session yesterday – Greg was really impressed with you and as you no doubt picked up on, this kind of feedback from him is rare. But as we’ve just finished two phone interviews with Bloomberg and Reuters, I wanted to pass on just how much Greg has put your suggestions into practice. He’s been nailing the simple storytelling, adding in the human interest and throwing in multiple examples to bring it to life. I can see all your good work in action today and the result is exactly what I could have hoped for.”

“On behalf of everyone who participated in yesterday’s training session, a MASSIVE thank you. It was informative, challenging, entertaining and thoroughly eye-opening. We have learnt to drive and now need to get to second and third gear, as Peter said.”

“It was a fantastic day. I would be super confident putting Peter in front of a mic … Lucy was superb. It was a huge amount of fun and they all really enjoyed it. Thank you.”
